The team was given the nickname "Jail Blazers." It brought the team to the finals in both 1999 and 2000, but fan support waned as the team became better known for the players' off-court antics. After his resignation, the current management has been making efforts to bring back local support for the team. They still remain sixth in the NBA, averaging 19,421 fans per game for the 2006 season. Each of the team's last 12 home games were sold out.
The Blazers didn't qualify for the playoffs in 2003-04 or 2004-05, and in the 2005-06 season, had the worst record in the league, 21-61. There has been some talk of a move for the team, but their contract states that they must play in the Rose Garden until 2023.
