The Orlando Magic was founded in 1989, and play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the NBA. Playing in the Amway Arena since their inception, the Magic are expected to move to a new, 20,000 seat arena for $480 million. Completion is expected before the 2010-11 season.

Along with Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway, the team began to dominate the NBA, achieving the first 50 win season in the franchise's history.
The team has never seen a championship, though in 1995 they did progress to win the Eastern Conference Title before being swept by the Houston Rockets in the NBA Finals. The next year the team's record was 60-22, and they went on to gain the Southeast Division Title in 1996. But the Bulls lethal combination of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman proved to be too much for the Magic.
The next year saw the loss of Shaq who chose to go to the Lakers as a free agent. With the trade of Hardaway in 1999, the team was comprised of no-name players that were also new, like their coach Doc Rivers. Rivers was awarded Coach of the Year and gained the slogan "Heart and Hustle" for the team's hard work. The team went on to lead their division, after another overhaul in 2004.
In 2004, the Magic selected high-school superstar Dwight Howard with the #1 pick in the draft. It took a while for Howard to become an NBA force, but was an ALL-Star in his third year in 2006. He has become a great player and led the Magic to the playoffs in April of 2007, the first since 2003. He was the starting center for the East in the 2008 All-Star Game and also won the Slam Dunk contest. The Magic went on to win the Southeast Division and beat the raptors in the First round of the playoffs before being defeated by the Pistons.
