New Jersey Nets Tickets

The New Jersey Nets got their name from a rhyming game. As the team originated as the New Jersey Americans, they soon moved back to Long Island and changed their name to the New York Nets to rhyme with two other sports teams in New York: The Mets and the Jets. The team merged into the NBA when the ABA and NBA came together in 1976, along with the Nuggets, Pacers and Spurs.

The Knicks had problems with the Nets from the start, first preventing them from locating in New York, and when they returned from Jersey in 1976, the Knicks charged the team $4.8 million for invading their territory in the NBA. It wasn't until the 1977-78 season that the franchise moved back to New Jersey, becoming the New Jersey Nets we know today. And the cross-town rivalry between the Nets and the Knicks still continues.

The 2005-06 season saw the Nets surge to the top of their division, winning 14 games in a row, the longest winning streak in the NBA that season, matching the franchise record set in 2004. The franchise also set a team record with 20 road victories. With Jay-Z as part owner of the team, plans are in the works for a move back to New York for the 2008-09 season.
