The Golden State Warriors, founded in 1946, are based in Oakland, California and play in the Pacific Division of the NBA's Western Conference.

They are the only major league franchise without their location in their name. The Warriors secured three championships in their history, one from their days in the Basketball Association of America, in 1947. The other two NBA Championship titles came in 1956 and 1975.

As inaugural members of the BAA, the team won the championship the very first year the league existed. The franchise joins the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks as being one of three of the original BAA teams still in existence.

With the addition of Wilt Chamberlain to the team in 1959, not only would the face of basketball change through his scoring records and style of play, he would bring the team to new heights. Known as "Wilt the Stilt," he set the record for most points scored against a team in a single game, 100. In the late '80s and early '90s the team had another string of successes, falling into a tailspin after losing the "Run T-M-C" trio that brought them so many wins. Today the team holds the active record for the most seasons in a row without a playoff appearance, twelve.
