For a team that started their franchise career in the gymnasium of North Side High School, the Detroit Pistons have come a long way. The crowds at the Palace of Auburn Hills are some of the toughest for opposing teams to contend with, and are commonly dotted with celebrities. Road games lend a healthy following of fans as well.
During the '80s, the team got the nickname "the Bad Boys" for their rough, physical playing. The team was disliked around the NBA, but more so in Chicago and Boston, the Piston's major rivals. The rivalry took a turn for the worst when the Piston's key defender Ben Wallace stunned the league by signing on with the Bulls in the 2006 offseason.
But 2004 saw the Pistons in the lead, as the team defeated the heavily favored Los Angeles Lakers to take home the NBA Championship.
